Novi Police Promotes Detective Ayren Edgar to Sergeant

Edgar began his career with the Novi Police Department in 2002.

Detective Ayren Edgar, an 11-year veteran of the Novi Police Department, has a new rank. The department promoted Edgar on Friday to the rank of sergeant.

Edgar previously served as a detective in the South Oakland Narcotics Intelligence Consortium. He is a 2000 graduate of Lake Superior State University where he earned a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice.

He began his career with the Novi Police Department in 2002, after spending two years with the Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Office where he worked as a patrol deputy. He also enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. Reserves and was called to active duty in February 2003. Edgar was deployed to Kuwait and Iraq and served as squad leader for the 1st Battalion, 24th Marine Infantry Regiment. In 2004, he returned to the Novi Police Department after being honorably discharged from service.

During his career, Edgar:

  • was a Field Training Officer and Use of Force Instructor
  • earned the Mothers Against Drunk Driving award in 2004 and 2005
  • earned four Merit Citations and one Unit Citation
  • was named “Employee of the Month” in June 2008

Sergeant Edgar continually demonstrates a strong commitment to teamwork and dedication to the mission, vision, and values of the Novi Police Department. I have every confidence he will embrace his new responsibilities and I look forward to working with him in his new assignment."

Edgar’s promotion follows the retirement on Wednesday of Sergeant Terry Whitfield, who retired after 25 years of service.
