Woman Steals Jewelry, Purses from JC Penney, Police Say

Novi police arrested a woman July 11 on charges of stealing from a department store at Twelve Oaks mall, according to a police report. 

Loss prevention agents saw the woman in JC Penney’s fashion jewelry department, the report said. She had a large empty Macy’s shopping bag and various clothing items from JC Penney, according to the report.

She selected a necklace, a bracelet and a pair of pink earrings, the report said. She then went to the accessories department and selected two clutch purses, one green and one black and white polka-dotted, according to the report. She then went to the misses department, selected a shirt and draped that over the purses, the report said.

When she came out of the fitting room, she had only the one shirt she used to cover the purses and another black shirt, according to the report. The loss prevention agent did not see anything back on the rack, the report said. 

She put two items back on the sales floor and proceeded to the Novi Road exit, according to the report, with her Macy’s bag full. The agents stopped her and she immediately admitted to the theft, the report said.

She stole two Liz Claireborne bracelets valued at $68, one pair of fashion earrings valued at $10, two purses valued at $70 and two shirts valued at $37 for a total of $185. 

The woman paid a $100 bond and has a hearing July 22 at 52-1 District Court.
