Mayor Thanks Novi Police for Quickly Arresting Homicide Suspect

Mayor Bob Gatt commends officers' quick actions in the case of the 84-year-old woman who was killed Monday.



At Thursday's Novi State of the City Address, Mayor Bob Gatt commended the efforts of Novi police in arresting the man who is now charged with killing an 84-year-old Novi resident.

He singled out Officer Steve Baloff among the crowd to thank him for his keenness in suspecting the man now charged with the horrible crime.

Gatt also highlighted the city's police and fire departments police's efforts in other areas, including:

  • The Novi fire department had a 5 minute and 46 second average response time in 2013. That's a 6 second reduction from the previous year.
  • The Novi police department was honored by Mothers Against Drunk Driving with a 2013 Outstanding Law Enforcement Agency Award for apprehending intoxicated drivers and its innovative "Choose Your Ride" program.
  • The total number of Part A, or serious, crimes decreased by more than 4 percent in 2013. That is the first reduction in the overall crime rate since 2010.
  • Larceny complaints are at their lowest number in 10 years.
