Novi City Council Makes Commission, Board Appointments

The council appointed residents to the Zoning Board of Appeals, the Library Board and other committees.

After interviewing the applicants at its Nov. 28 meeting, the Novi City Council voted to approve the following residents to city boards and commissions at its meeting Monday night:

Election Commission

Appointment: Raymond Weidenbach

Term ends: Jan. 1, 2015

About the Election Commission: The commission works with the City Clerk to prepare and run city elections.

About Weidenbach: Weidenbach was reappointed to the commission. He has lived in Novi for 35 years, is a practicing certified public accountant and has a Master of Business Administration from the University of Detroit.

Library Board

Appointment: Scott Teasdale

Term ends: March 1, 2014 (partial term to fill vacancy)

About the Library Board: Members of the board are responsible for governing the , including its finances, policies and planning.

About Teasdale: Teasdale is a new member to the board. He has lived in Novi for three years. He has a bachelor's degree in business from Western Michigan University, plus a teaching certificate in business education at the high school level and an MBA from Eastern Michigan University. 

Public Access Promotion Committee

Appointment: Carol Spennachio

Term ends: Jan. 1, 2015

About the Public Access Promotion Committee: The committee works with the Southwest Oakland Cable Commission to promote viewership in the community.

About Spennachio: She was reappointed to the committee and has attended four of four meetings since February. She said she is excited to work on future projects.

Historical Commission

Appointments: John MacInnis and Kimberly Holdaway

Terms end: Jan. 1, 2015

About the Historical Commission: Members of the Historical Commission collect, mark and preserve historical sites and also maintain Old Township Hall.

About MacInnis: MacInnis was reappointed to the commission. He has lived in Novi for 34 years and is retired from the construction industry. MacInnis has a degree in civil engineering and has a strong interest in history.

About Holdaway: Holdaway was reappointed to the commission. She has a great interest in history and has lived in Novi for about seven years. Holdaway says she enjoys learning more about the city and teaching its history to community members.

Zoning Board of Appeals

Appointments: David Ghannam, James Gerblick and Jeffrey Gedeon

Terms end: Jan. 1, 2015

About the Zoning Board of Appeals: The ZBA provides administrative interpretation and can grant special permits for use of a zoning district that is an exception to the law.

About Ghannam: Ghannam is currently the board's chairman and was reappointed. He is an attorney with a specialty in real estate. He is married with three children. 

About Gerblick: Gerblick was reappointed to the board after serving as an alternate and full-time member of the board. Gerblick is a CPA and has worked on government financial statement audits.

About Gedeon: Gedeon was reappointed and has lived in Novi for four years and works at a law firm in Novi. He has served on the ZBA for the past 18 months, first as an alternate and then as a full-time member.

Board of Review

Appointment: Ronald Boron

Term ends: Jan. 1, 2015

About the Board of Review: The board reviews property assessments and listens to appeals by property owners, then can approve, deny or reduce the appeals.

About Boron: Boron was reappointed to the Board of Review and was not at the council's Nov. 28 meeting for an interview.
