Novi Names New Finance Director

The City of Novi is proud to announce the appointment of Nevrus Nazarko, CPA, as finance director/treasurer. Nazarko, the current director of finance/controller for the city of Hamtramck, will oversee finance and treasury operations including property tax billing and collection, investment management, budgeting, accounting, financial reporting, grant monitoring, payroll auditing, accounts payable, and purchasing.

Nazarko fills the position vacated by former Finance Director/Treasurer Kathy Smith-Roy, who retired from Novi in June 2012.

He will also oversee the development of a multi-year budget, comprehensive annual financial report, and all other financial reporting, as well as serving on the labor negotiation team. Nazarko will officially begin his duties with Novi in mid-October.

As the finance director/controller for Hamtramck, Nazarko leads the Finance Department in all accounting, payroll functions, and property tax functions. He oversees the independent annual audit and prepares the annual budget. He is a part of the city’s labor negotiation team and successfully implemented a new financial management system. For several months this year, Nazarko also served as the acting city manager for Hamtramck, responsible for all day-to-day operations.

Prior to his tenure as finance director/controller for Hamtramck, Nazarko served as the income tax director. He has also served as a senior federal tax xpecialist for KPMG in Detroit and founded his own accounting firm.

Nazarko is a graduate of Wayne State University with a Master of Business Administration and a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting. He is a Certified Public Accountant.
