Meadowbrook Teacher Seeks Funds for Project to Help Students With Special Needs

Early Childhood Special Education teacher Lisa Evans needs more than $400 to purchase a special storytelling kit.

Meadowbrook Elementary School teacher Lisa Evans has turned to the website donorschoose.org to raise more than $540 for a kit that can help foster literacy among her young students.

Evans teaches students ages 2 1/2 to 5 years old, in morning and afternoon classes, who have speech and cognitive impairments, autism, Down syndrome, and emotional impairments.

The kit includes felt board characters and puppets that will allow Evans' students to "practice sequencing the main parts of the story and retell the story by using hands-on materials. This will encourage talking, communicating, and interaction with others," according to the project description.
