Novi Schools Announces New Deerfield Elementary Principal

Julie Bedford will take the place of former Deerfield principal Kim Warren, who resigned after facing suspicion of being intoxicated on school grounds.

Novi's Deerfield Elementary School will have a new principal for the upcoming school year.

Previously, an interim principal served the elementary school after former Deerfield principal Kim Warren was placed on administrative leave in April because of suspicion of being intoxicated on school grounds. She faced “super-drunk” charges, and then resigned from her position in May.

The school's new principal is Julie Bedford, according to an email from Novi schools.

“Ms. Bedford will be a wonderful leader at Deerfield and a strong addition to the administrative staff in Novi,” said Carol Diglio, assistant superintendent of Human Resources for Novi schools, in a press release.

Bedford started as an elementary classroom teacher in Huron Valley and was an elementary principal in the Huron Valley School District since 2002.

She has a bachelor’s degree from Eastern Michigan University, a master’s degree from Oakland University and an education specialist degree from Michigan State University, the email said.

“Ms. Bedford has a strong background in teaching and learning,” said Steve Matthews, superintendent of the Novi Community School District, in the press release. “She will ensure that the children at Deerfield continue to receive an excellent education. I am pleased that such a strong leader will join us in Novi.”
