Novi Students Well Equipped for Future, School Board Trustee Says

January is School Board Recognition Month, a time to acknowledge those who serve the district.

In honor of School Board Recognition Month, Novi Patch is highlighting the seven people who volunteer their time — which is often consumed with hours-long meetings and endless documents — for public education.

We'll post profiles of Novi's school board members one day at a time until the end of January. Today you'll learn about Tracey Cadwell.

Tracey Cadwell — Trustee, Novi School Board

How long have you been on the school board?
I have served on the Novi School Board of Education for one year.

What is your role?
I serve on the Novi School Board of Education as a trustee.

Why did you join the school board?
I desired to become a member of the Novi School Board of Education, because I wanted to serve the students and families of the Novi School District. In addition, I wanted to have a positive impact on the educational services that our community receives in our school district.

Could you tell us about your personal or professional background, relevant to this position?
I have been employed in the educational arena since 1998. I have worked in a charter school system in Southwest Detroit for the past 15 years, and in August 2013 I became a Northville Public School District employee. I am currently a guidance counselor at Northville High School. I understand the importance of public education and the service and opportunities that should be afforded to all of our students. In addition, I have served on a charter school board as a recording secretary for the past 12 years. This position provides me additional knowledge of the school board responsibilities and the financial and legal aspects involved with public education.

What about the Novi Community School District makes you proud?
What makes me most proud of NCSD is the diversity of our district, the innovative techniques that we are implementing into our district, and the superb administration and staff that work together to service our families.

What are your goals for the district?
My goals for the district are heavily encompassed with our district’s mission which indicates that all students develop the knowledge, skills, and character necessary to achieve their highest potential and to be productive members of an ever changing global society. I truly believe that our district is a prime example of the future of our students, and with the type of services that we provide all of them will be well equipped for their futures.

Anything else you'd like to add?
It has truly been a privilege and honor to serve on the Novi School Board of Education. I value education, and believe in my heart that it takes a village to raise our children. With the compassion that our administration and staff has for our students, I believed that our students will be destined for greatness.
