Oakland County Students May Win $50 iTunes Card with Public Health PSA

Novi High School, Novi Middle School and area college students have the chance to win a $50 iTunes gift card, by creating a short public service announcement video that highlights public health.

The Oakland County-wide contest is designed to raise awareness about National Public Health Week in April. This year's theme, "Public Health is ROI: Save Lives, Save Money", highlights the value of prevention and the importance of well-supported public health systems in preventing disease, saving lives and curbing health care spending. 

“We have many creative young people throughout Oakland County,” County Executive L. Brooks Patterson said. “We want to tap into their ingenuity to explain in a simple, visual way what the function of public health is.”

Kathy Forzley, Oakland County Health Division manager and health officer, said public health impacts everyone. “Public health plays a role in all our lives, whether we realize it or not. From the safety of what we eat and drink to the environments where we live, work and play, public health is working behind the scenes to protect the community.”

The producers of the winning video in each of the three age categories will receive a $50 iTunes gift card. Individuals and groups who submit a video will receive community service hours for their efforts. The winning videos will be posted on the Health Division’s homepage, and on YouTube.
