Unidentified Man Enters Novi Elementary School

The district is working with Novi police to identify the man.

An unidentified man gained entry into Novi's Parkview Elementary School this week.

Superintendent Steve Matthews said in an email to parents Thursday that the man entered the school Monday along with two parents.

"This adult did not report to the office as instructed but instead walked down the hall. He entered an empty classroom and took a purse belonging to a staff member," he said in the email.

The man returned to the hallway where a staff member asked if he needed help, to which he said he was on his way to the office, according to the email. He then exited the building.

Principal Jenifer Michos notified the Novi School Police Liaison Officer, who arrived to review the school's security footage, the email said. The district is working with Novi police to identify the man.

"This person was able to identify a way to enter the building by waiting for parents to gain access. We are in the process of reviewing our protocols to ensure that this will not happen again," Matthews said in his email.
