Catholic Central Wrestlers Look to Post Season

Nationally ranked CC Shamrock Wrestlers look to build on an 18-3 regular season record in defense of the its D1 State Championship.

Under the leadership of Senior Captains Ken Bade, Mike Babicz, and Bob Coe, the Catholic Central wrestling team concluded its regular season with a 46 – 21 win over a well coached and spirited team from Oxford.  The Shamrocks finished with an impressive 18–3 record and have earned a national ranking of 15th according to InterMat.com.

Coach Mitch Hancock once again scheduled an extremely tough schedule for the Shamrocks to fully prepare the team for the post season run at defending their State Championship title. The three losses came against St. Edward (OH) ranked #2 in the nation, Montini Catholic (IL) ranked #11 in the nation, and a season split against St. Johns (MI) currently ranked #4 in the nation.

Catholic Central is currently ranked first in D1 by Michigan Grappler.  During this regular season CC has been put to the test and defeated the second through seventh ranked teams in D1 (Davison, Hartland, Temperance Bedford, Clarkston, Oxford, and Rochester, respectively) as well as the the number one ranked D2, D3, and D4 teams (St. Johns, Dundee, and Hudson, respectively).

The Shamrocks are prepared to begin their post season run with Team Districts at Novi High School on Wednesday February 6th at 5:30 PM.  CC will take to the mat against Northville while the host Wildcats will battle Livonia Stevenson.  The winners of each match will then compete for the privilege of advancing to the Team Regionals on Wednesday February 13 at Garden City High School.
