National Dental Hygiene Month

October is National Dental Hygiene Month! Brush up on your dental health with these quick tips from the American Dental Hygienists' Association...

BRUSH.
Remember to replace your toothbrush every three to four months. Researchers have established that thousands of microbes grow on toothbrush bristles and handles, which can cause cold and flu viruses, the herpes virus that causes cold sores, and bacteria that can cause periodontal infections.

FLOSS.
Use about 18 inches of dental floss. Flossing before brushing allows more fluoride from your toothpaste to reach between your teeth, which is a good thing!

RINSE.
Your teeth make up less than half of your mouth- brushing and flossing cannot get all plaque and germs. Be sure to finish your oral care routine with an antiseptic mouthwash with the ADA Seal of Acceptance.

CHEW.
Chewing sugarless gum after eating and drinking can help eliminate food particles caught between the teeth after a meal and also helps prevent plaque build up by stimulating saliva production.
