Lidstrom To Stay With Detroit Red Wings as Scout

After announcing his retirement from the team in May, Lidstrom won't be going far.

Former Detroit Red Wings Nicklas Lidstrom will be staying with the team as a scout, according to the Red Wings website.

Red Wings Assistant General Manager Jim Nill said Sunday that Lidstrom will remain with the organization as a scout, most likely in Europe, according to the website.

"We haven't really sat down [and determined] to what extent, but he'll be in the organization and do everything he can to help us out," Nill said during a session of the Red Wings prospects camp. "We might bring him back here. It depends on the situation. His terms. We wanted to keep him in the organization."

In his address to the media in May, Lidstrom spoke of his support of the Wings.

"I never even wanted to leave Detroit," he said. "I always believed in this team, and this organization and what they would do to win another Stanley Cup."
