Novi Police Investigating Potential Arson of Mobile Home

Occupants say they believe the burning of their home was a hate crime.

Firefighters Who Saved Man in Wintergreen Fire Receive Purple Heart, Medal of Valor

The men were recognized in an awards ceremony Tuesday night.

In January, Novi firefighters rescued a 50-year-old man from a house fire at 24144 Wintergreen Circle. The fire ended up destroying the home, but the resident survived. On Tuesday at the semi-annual city police and fire awards ceremony, six Novi firefighters were recognized for their bravery and service that night. Novi Chief of Police/Director of Public Safety David Molloy presented the men with the awards, and Oakland County Commissioner Kathy Crawford gave each of them a proclamation from the Oakland County Board of Commissioners.  Lt. Numerous members of the Novi Police Department and the Novi Fire Department were recognized for their achievements Tuesday night.

$90,000 Diamond Shipment Stolen in Route to Novi Jewelry Manufacturer

The co-owner of a Novi jewelry manufacturer and wholesale diamond provider reported $90,000 of diamonds were stolen from him while being shipped to the store, according to a police report. The owner was expecting a shipment of diamonds from California, and it arrived on May 8 at 9 a.m., the report said. The owner personally accepted the shipment form the delivery man, but after handling the box for a few minutes, he noticed the tape securing the box had been cut and compromised, the report said. The man opened the box and found it empty, the report said. The box was supposed to have a shipment of mixed and loose diamonds with a weight of 1,500 carats, the report said. Man Steals New Car for 'Zombie Apocalypse'

The following information was supplied by the Novi Police Department. Arrests do not indicate a conviction.

What started off as a night drinking and talking with friends turned into a 22-year-old man being arrested on charges of stealing a car from a Novi dealership to survive the 'zombie apocalypse,' according to a police report. Novi police were dispatched to the area of Grand River Avenue and Karim with a report of a driver that might be intoxicated, the report said. The officer found a car in the south side ditch in front of Pheasant Run Plaza and a man standing uninjured next to the vehicle, the report said. The man told the police he tried to turn into the plaza but missed, the report said. The officer could smell the odor of intoxicants on the man and gave him a Breathalyzer test, the report said. The man had a blood-alcohol level of 0.19…

Northville Hit-and-Run Suspect To Stand Trial in June

Kevin Alexander of South Lyon is set to appear before a jury on June 5.

Kevin Alexander of South Lyon is scheduled to stand trial in June for the hit-and-run death of 25-year-old Joshua Green of West Bloomfield in December 2011. According to an update from the office of Wayne County prosecutor Kym Worthy, Alexander was charged with failure to stop at the scene of a serious personal injury accident and will stand trial before a jury in the Third District Court on June 5. This charge has a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $5,000 fine, according to a previous police press release. Maria Miller, spokewoman for the prosecutor's office, declined to comment on the record to Patch about whether Alexander pleaded guilty or not guilty. Seven Car Windshields Damaged by BB Gun at Fountain Walk; Car Stolen from Store Lot

The following information was supplied by the Novi Police Department. Arrests do not indicate a conviction.

The windshields of at least seven cars were damaged while parked in the south lot of Fountain Walk on May 5 between 7:30 and 9 p.m., according to a police report.  The report said that the windshields appeared to have been damaged by someone shooting a BB gun at them. Novi police were dispatched to the area after a security agent found the security vehicle’s windshield had been cracked, the report said. The police officer found several other vehicles facing the grassy median damaged, as well, the report said. There are no suspects or surveillance footage, and the case has been forwarded to the Detective Bureau for review. Farmington Hills Woman Arrested Friday Has Medical Marijuana Card, Attorney Says

Christine Frederick, who said she has ties to Tucker Cipriano, appeared today in 47th District Court.

An attorney for a Farmington Hills woman arrested Friday on charges of manufacturing and possession of marijuana says his client has a medical marijuana card and caregiver certification.  Steven Schwartz appeared in 47th District Court this afternoon with his client Christine Frederick, 47. Frederick gave an emotional interview to reporters following the April 18 arraignment of Tucker Cipriano and Mitchell Young, both charged in the murder of Bob Cipriano and assault on Rose and Salvatore Cipriano in their Farmington Hills home.  Judge Marla Parker adjourned today's pretrial exam conference to May 18, 8:30 a.m., based on an agreement between the defendant and Oakland County prosecutor's office.  Frederick, 47, was taken into custody on …

Woman Arrested for Stealing Kim Kardashian Jewelry

A 22-year-old woman was arrested on charges of retail fraud of the third degree after she was seen leaving Sears without paying for two pieces of Kim Kardashian jewelry, according to a police report. On April 28 around 5 p.m., the loss prevention officers at Sears saw the woman in the Kim Kardashian section with a large purse and Sears bag with her, the report said.  The woman selected a bracelet, put it on her arm and looked around up at cameras, the report said. She then took the bracelet off and selected a necklace and set of earrings, the report said. The loss prevention officers then saw the woman meet up with her friend; since her friend had selected a dress, the loss prevention officer thought the woman might go into the fitting …
