The end of the school year is just around the corner, which means it's a time full of awards and championships. If you have a student who has made a great accomplishment, share the news on Patch! Catholic Central High School seniors dressed their best and brought their dates to Laurel Manor in Livonia to celebrate prom Thursday night.  Novi Patch is rolling out the virtual red carpet for parents who want to share pictures of their students looking their best. Which Teacher Do You Appreciate?

Tell us about a teacher who made a difference in your life in honor of Teacher Appreciation Week.

May 7-11 is National Teacher Appreciation Week. So we want to know, which teacher deserves some recognition? Maybe it's a teacher from a school in the area — Novi, Northville, Walled Lake or Catholic Central — or a teacher you have had in the past. On Novi Patch's Facebook Page, a few readers shared who they appreciate. Walled Lake Western student Torry Yu wrote, "I have too many to name. Ms. Burrill (5th grade) at Hickory Woods Elementary! I had her as my science teacher and loved the way she taught and how she added humor into her lessons. She showed her knowledge in the lesson. I hope my sister has her next year for 2nd grade." Students from Novi High School enjoyed "A Night of Pure Imagination" at prom Saturday night at Suburban Collection Showplace. Congressman, Students, Ministers Urge Action on Student Loan Interest

At Wayne State University in Farmington Hills, U.S. Rep. Gary Peters gathers advocates to urge support for legislation that will prevent Stafford loan rates from doubling.

If federally subsidized Stafford student loan rates double this year, thousands of dollars in additional interest may hit Walsh College student MiVida Burrus' family doubly hard. During a news conference Tuesday at Wayne State University Oakland Center in Farmington Hills, the Troy mother of three said her daughter has chosen to follow her example of seeking higher education. Both rely on Stafford loans to cover the cost of tuition. "Raising the interest rate hurts me, and it hurts my family," Burrus said. "It kind of dampens our dreams and keeps us from believing that we can ever reach the goal that we set out, which is to have that degree, to have that job and be a productive society member."
