Free Heart Scans Available to Novi Students in April

The first 300 students to register can get a free heart check at Novi High School.

The Novi Athletic Department and Beaumont Hospitals are teaming up to offer free heart scans to high school students on April 13. The heart scans will be held at Novi High School in the Performance Gym from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.  The student heart screening will include a medical history, blood pressure check, an electrocardiogram or ECG, and a “quick-look” echocardiogram (an ultrasound image of the heart). You can register online or by calling 1-800-328-8542. Registration is limited to the first 300 to apply. The Healthy Heart Check student heart screening program was created by Beaumont Health System in May 2007. Since then, Beaumont has screened 8,965 Michigan high school students. Registration Open for Spring Sports Leagues in Novi

Register online for youth, adult and older adult leagues, including golf, softball, soccer, volleyball and more.

Spring activities are sprouting throughout the City of Novi including a variety of sports leagues for all ages. Registration is going on now via cityofnovi.org for the following spring and summer leagues: Older Adult Golf League Men’s, women’s and mixed leagues play 16 games with a partner using a round-robin schedule. Individual scores are recorded and will be celebrated at an outing and banquet on Sept. 11. Lawn Bocce Ball Bocce Ball is easy to learn and play; games will take place on the lawn of the Meadowbrook Activity Center. Adult Tennis League Fourteen matches are scheduled on a weekly basis with opponent at a convenient time and location for both. Catholic Central Falls in State Hockey Final

Brighton defeats Shamrocks 2-1 in Division 1 state championship game.

Detroit Catholic Central lost to Brighton High School in the Division 1 hockey state championship game Saturday at Compuware. Michael Yuhasz scored a goal and assisted on another for Brighton, which won the title for the second straight year. Lucas Morgan also had a goal and an assist, and Daniel Bosio had an assist for the Bulldogs. Carson Gatt scored for Catholic Central (22-8 overall record). Brighton defeated Grosse Pointe North 4-3 to win last year's state championship game. The Shamrocks have won seven state titles since 2000, most recently in 2010, according to the MHSAA website. Catholic Central Beats East Kentwood, Heads to Championship

CC will play Brighton for the state title Saturday night.

Detroit Catholic Central High School is looking to capture another state hockey title this year as the varsity team beat East Kentwood 8-0 Friday in the Division 1 semifinals at Compuware Arena in Plymouth. CC will now play Brighton in the championship game Saturday at 6 p.m. at Compuware. Brighton (27-2-1 record) won the state title in 2012. The Shamrocks have won seven state titles since 2000, most recently in 2010, according to the MHSAA website. Fans can watch the game live online at MHSAA.tv or listen to it live at MHSAANetwork.com. Catholic Central Hockey Beats Plymouth, Heads to Semifinals

The Shamrocks are on the road to win the state championship.

The Shamrocks beat the Wildcats Wednesday with a score of 5-1. “It feels great,” Catholic Central head coach Todd Johnson told MI Prep Zone. “It feels like a long, long time. It's a big day for Novi and Catholic Central boys basketball teams, who play in District 18 semi-final games tonight at Northville High School.  The Wildcats go up against Canton at 5 p.m., and the Shamrocks face Plymouth at 7 p.m. Are you traveling to Northville to support your school's team? Catholic Central Hockey Wins Regional Final

The team heads to the quarterfinals on Wednesday.

Detroit Catholic Central's varsity hockey team won the regional title Saturday. The team beat Brother Rice 3-1. The Shamrocks now move on to play Plymouth High School in the Division 1 Quarterfinals Wednesday, according to the MHSAA website. The game will be held at the Ann Arbor Yost Arena at 7:30 p.m. If they win, CC will face the winner of Wednesday's East Kentwood vs. Muskegon Reeths-Puffer game in the semifinals on Friday. The championship game is scheduled for Saturday. Other teams in the running are Utica Eisenhower, Detroit U-D Jesuit, Brighton and Bay City Central. Do you have any photos of the game? 4 CC Wrestlers Win State Titles

Catholic Central came home big from the individual state wrestling finals this past weekend.

By Danna Castillo MHSAA Individual State Finals were held at the Palace of Auburn Hills this weekend and there was no shortage of Detroit Catholic Central accomplishments. CC sent 12 wrestlers to do battle with the best of the best the State of Michigan had to offer.  Of those 12, four are state champions. CC also won the team wrestling state title the week before.
