DIA Inside|Out: Relax with Renoir at 12 Oaks Mall

"Woman in an Armchair" is one of six paintings on display this summer in Novi this summer.

A 19th-century woman sits moodily outside 12 Oaks Mall this summer as shoppers dine nearby. Woman in an Armchair by Pierre-Auguste Renoir is on display outdoors near the food court until late August.  It’s one of six pieces on display in Novi this summer as part of the Detroit Institute of Art’s Inside|Out program, which brings waterproof reproductions of masterpieces to the streets of Metro Detroit communities. Novi Patch is featuring all six of Novi’s pieces this week. "One of the original 'impressionists,' Renoir painted the female figure throughout his career," reads the placard next to the painting. DIA Displays Masterpieces of Art Around Novi

The Detroit Institute of Art's Inside|Out program is back this summer with six framed reproductions installed outdoors at popular Novi places.

Seeing a world-famous masterpiece is as easy as a walk in the park this summer—literally.  Back by popular demand, the Detroit Institute of Arts is returning with six reproductions of masterpieces to display outdoors in Novi this summer. It’s part of the DIA’s Inside|Out program, which was started this past year to celebrate the museum’s 125th birthday. “It was so well-received last year, we received phone calls and requests to get involved," said Inside|Out Site Coordinator Michelle Hauske. "So we decided to renew the program, to expand it, so now Inside|Out is going to take place over the next two years.” The DIA has doubled the amount of paintings this year from 40 to 80, scattered throughout 11 communities and spanning six counties. …
