Andiamo Honors Breast Cancer Awareness Month

The metro Detroit restaurant group has teamed up with Oakwood Healthcare to help provide free mammograms through their Pasta & Passion event.

Every metro Detroit diner knows that Andiamo restaurants have a passion for pasta–but for the second year in a row, President and CEO Joe Vicari is supporting another thing close to his heart: Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Several years ago, one of Vicari's employees was diagnosed with breast cancer–a disease that eventually took her life. “It was a very difficult situation for everyone–her family, her friends and everyone she worked with,” said Vicari. Last year, in her honor, Vicari teamed up with Oakwood Healthcare to present Pasta & Passion–a month-long event aimed at raising funds to help raise awareness and early detection of breast cancer. 'Beehive' Creates a Buzz at Andiamo Novi

Happenstance Productions' newest show plays now through Oct. 9.

Beehive, the '60s Musical is an off-Broadway hit first created by Larry Gallagher in the 1980s. Today, you can see the show at Andiamo Novi Theatre. The show is produced by Happenstance Productions, a full-service entertainment production company founded by local actor, director and designer Aaron T. Moore in 2010. The show is all about the music of the '60s and the women who left their marks on a generation with their songs and iconic performance styles. Beneath the fun and frivolity of big hairdos and bigger voices, the progression of the songs takes the audience swiftly through the '60s and how its popular songs reflected the changing social and political mores of the time. 5 Things to Do This Weekend: July 8-10

Despicable Me will be shown in Fuerst Park Friday at dusk as part of Novi's Sizzling Summer Arts Series. Admission is free. Novi Ice Arena has open skate Friday and Saturday from 8-9:50 p.m. Cost is $7 for admission and $3 for skate rental. The Detroit Institute of Arts has installed famous paintings in popular places in Novi. Spend an afternoon traveling to all six locations to check out the masterpieces at no cost. Or if you prefer your art indoors, attend an opening reception for the newest Civic Center atrium exhibit Friday from 6:30-7:30 p.m. The three new exhibitors are Lee Chen, Lynette Curtiss and Kim Kozlowski.
