Crime Report: Juvenile Arrested for Retail Fraud; Car Window Damaged

The following arrest information was supplied by the Novi Police Department for the period of July 19-21. It does not indicate a conviction.

A juvenile female was arrested on charges of retail fraud on the evening of July 21 after security witnessed her leaving JC Penney in Twelve Oaks Mall without paying for jewelry, according to a police report. A security officer watched on surveillance camera as the girl selected numerous pieces of jewelry, then ripped them out of their packaging and placed them into her bag, the police report said. She then purchased a pair of shorts and a shirt, but did not pay for the jewelry, the report said. The security officer watched her leave the upper level mall entrance, where security stopped her and brought her back to the Loss Prevention Office, the report said. Crime Report: Utility Trailer Stolen; Car Windows Damaged by Pellet Gun

The following arrest information was supplied by the Novi Police Department for the period of July 9-18. It does not indicate a conviction.

Eight incidents of larceny were reported to Novi police from July 9-18. A man and his wife said they were sitting on their porch on Scenic Lane on July 17 at 12:23 a.m. when they saw a car drive down the street and stop near their car parked in the road. They heard a noise, and then the car drove out of the subdivision. The man went to find that the window on the driver’s side was broken, likely from a pellet gun, according to the man’s statement in the police report. After police responded to the man’s report, an officer checked more vehicles on the road for damage and found a Dodge truck parked in front of Scenic Lane with the driver’s side rear door window shattered but still in place in the frame. Crime Report: Woman Arrested on Retail Fraud Charges; Backflow Valves Stolen

The following arrest information was supplied by the Novi Police Department for the period of June 19-30. It does not indicate a conviction.

A woman from Ohio was arrested at 3:30 p.m. Thursday on a charge of third-degree retail fraud at 12 Oaks Mall. Two Sephora employees said they saw her take a bottle of Coach perfume, lift her skirt and hide it between her legs, according to a Novi Police report. When the woman left the store, the employees reported it to mall security, who called police. Security watched as the woman and three other people left, drove around the mall and parked again, the police report said. According to the report, police inspected the car, which belonged to one of the woman’s companions, and found more than 120 items worth a total of $2,480.
