Gatt vows to stay focused on fiscal responsibility and community safety.
Current Novi Mayor Bob Gatt has announced that he will be running for another two-year term in the Nov. 5 election, according to a press release. Gatt was elected mayor in 2011 after serving eight years on the Novi City Council. He also served as Novi’s mayor pro-tem from 2008-2011 and in the Novi Police Department for 27 years. “Let’s keep that momentum going!” said Gatt in the press release. “Novi is a becoming one of the greatest cities in the entire state of Michigan. Novi Mayor Bob Gatt gave the State of the City address Thursday afternoon.
Mayor Bob Gatt gave a glowing review of Novi Thursday afternoon as he addressed more than 200 people in his 2013 State of the City speech at the Baronette Renaissance. "You are focused, as are we, on making Novi all it can be—the best city in the state and the best city in the country," Gatt said. A video spoof of Gatt hosting "The Late Show" started off the address with several laughs. Part of the video showed Gatt interviewing local residents in public places, asking them if they knew facts about Novi and who the mayor was. After warming up the audience with the light-hearted video, Gatt got serious to talk for 40 minutes about the accomplishments Novi has made during the past year. The Oakland Pet Adoption Center is the largest public shelter in Oakland County with nearly 6,500 animals taken in on an annual basis
Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson has announced that Novi Mayor Bob Gatt has been promoted to manager of Animal Control Division, which oversees the Oakland Pet Adoption Center in Auburn Hills. Gatt succeeds Lawrence Obrecht, who has retired after nine years of service. “Bob Gatt brings a wealth of talent and managerial experience to his new job,” Patterson said. “We are lucky to have him on board.” Gatt has served as chief of field operations for Oakland County’s Community Corrections Division since 2002. Novi Mayor Bob Gatt said that the new Walmart opening in Novi Town Center Wednesday morning is "big for Novi." Gatt sat down with Novi Director of Communications Sheryl Walsh and Walmart store manager Aaron Quimby inside the new Supercenter in the above video made by the city. The three discuss Walmart in the first eight minutes of the video. Quimby said they have seen a lot of interest in the store already. "We've had to turn a lot of people away over the last few days. Just over the weekend the excitement has built with people coming into our parking lot," Quimby said. Gatt said in the video that "everyone in the city is excited" for the store to open. Novi Patch is starting a new feature using Spotify playlists. We'll be asking prominent people in the community what songs they listen to when rocking out. Construction of the hotel at the expo center in Novi is expected to be completed by July of 2013.
Suburban Collection Showplace officially broke ground on its new Hyatt Place hotel Tuesday morning. The project is estimated to cost $8.5 million dollars, and construction is expected to be completed by July of 2013. "It's been an incredibly long journey," said Blair Bowman, owner of Suburban Collection Showplace, who said the hotel has been a dream of his for six years. The hotel will be six stories with 126 guest rooms, and it will be managed by Packard Hospitality Group of California. The Hyatt will be attached to the east side of the Showplace, which Bowman said will help bring more business to the Showplace. Jasan Manar announced at the Novi Board of Education meeting Thursday that he would be resigning as board treasurer after he was elected to the position at the last meeting. Manar said he discussed holding the position with his employer, and they decided there could be a perceived liability if he were to serve as treasurer. After this announcement, Ann Glubzinski was voted to take over as treasurer. At the State of the City address Thursday afternoon, Novi Mayor Bob Gatt summed up the state of the city in one word: healthy. "You live and do business in one of the safest cities in Michigan, you've benefitted from the city's commitment to quality parks, infrastructure, communications and schools.
