Novi To Add Historical Marker to Pavilion Shore Park

The city will add a structure to commemorate the land's historical use as Native American ground, an amusement park, a bathhouse and a dance hall.

Pavilion Shore Park has been undergoing a makeover, but the Novi City Council wants the area to keep its historic roots. On Monday, Council discussed the addition of a historical icon at the park, which is located at 13 Mile and Old Novi roads. Throughout history, the area has been used by Native Americans, as a dance hall, as a bath house and as an amusement park. Located at the north end of Novi near the Walled Lake border, Pavilion Shore Park used to be called The Landings Property. The city is currently working on the first phase of enhancements to the park, which includes the addition of concrete walking paths, several benches and a terraced stone waterfront. Holocaust Memorial Center Celebrates Holocaust Hero Raoul Wallenberg

The Farmington Hills museum offers free admission July 29-Aug. 5, and events will be held in Novi and other nearby towns.

The Holocaust Memorial Center Zekelman Family Campus will present a special exhibit and a full week of programs honoring Swedish diplomat and Holocaust hero Raoul Wallenberg, July 29-Aug. 5. One event will be held at Fox Run Retirement Home in Novi on Aug. 1.  Celebrating the centennial of Wallenberg’s birth, the exhibit and programs will shed light on the life, courage and Michigan connections of a man who rescued thousands of Jews in Nazi-occupied Hungary. While serving as Sweden's special envoy in Budapest between July and December 1944, Wallenberg issued protective passports and sheltered Jews in buildings designated as Swedish territory saving tens of thousands of lives. Novi Library Reveals New Historic Display Case

The display case is located on the first floor and will show off the history of Novi.

—Submitted by the Novi Public Library As part of National Library Week, the Novi Public Library officially presented its new historical display case this week. This case was purchased with monies donated on behalf of Hugh and Kathy Crawford, longtime residents of Novi and strong supporters of Novi’s history. Hugh and Kathy Crawford stressed their desire to see the display case used to document and remember the rich history of Novi.
