Tucker Cipriano, Mitchell Young Trial Set for June

The two are charged with several felonies in connection with the murder of Tucker's father, Robert, and assaults on his mother and brother, in April 2012.

A pre-trial for Tucker Cipriano and Mitchell Young was held in the judge's chambers Tuesday afternoon, according to media reports. It has been nearly a year since the attack on the Cipriano family in their Farmington Hills home. Robert Cipriano was killed, and his wife, Rose, and son, Salvatore, were critically wounded. The Ciprianos' son Tucker and his friend Mitchell Young face multiple felony counts, including first-degree premeditated murder, in connection with the crimes. According to The Oakland Press, a trial date is set for June 10. The two will have a joint trial with separate juries. After the private pre-trial hearing Tuesday, Cipriano's lawyer Mitchell Ribitwer told the media that the meeting was to discuss any loose ends …

Cipriano Evidentiary Hearing Moved to December

Facing felony charges connected to the murder of his father and attacks on his mother and brother, Tucker Cipriano will be back in court Dec. 19.

An Oct. 31 evidentiary hearing in the case against Tucker Cipriano, who is accused in a deadly attack on his family, has been moved to December.  Cipriano was last in court Sept. 25, when Sixth Circuit Court Judge Shalinda Kumar ruled he is competent to stand trial. At the time, his attorney Mitchell Ribitwer said a determination on whether Cipriano was sane at the time of the attack would take another month.  Kumar ruled on Sept. 26 that Tucker Cipriano and Mitchell Young would have a joint trial, with separate juries, on felony charges related to the April 16 death of Robert Cipriano, Tucker's father, and severe injuries to his mother, Rose, and brother, Salvatore.  During the postponed hearing, Ribitwer was expected to argue to suppress…

Judge Rules Young's Statement After Cipriano Attack Admissible

Mitchell Young's defense attorney asked the court to throw out a statement made hours after the April attack on the Cipriano family.

A request by Mitchell Young's attorney to throw out a statement Young made while in the hospital hours after the April attack on the Cipriano family was denied in circuit court today. Young, 21, and friend Tucker Cipriano, 19, face felony charges related to the April 16 attack in the Cipriano home, which resulted in the death of Robert Cipriano, Tucker's father, and severe injuries to his mother, Rose, and brother, Salvatore. Defense attorney Michael McCarthy asked the court to suppress Young's statement, arguing that he was in the hospital with an injured jaw, and it's possible Young had a small seizure before talking to the police. McCarthy also said police did not record the interview. Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Shalina Kumar …

Cipriano, Young to Have Joint Trial, Separate Juries

The two face felony charges in an April attack that killed Robert Cipriano and seriously injured Rose and Salvatore Cipriano.

Tucker Cipriano and Mitchell Young will be tried together, but with separate juries, Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Shalina Kumar ruled today. Cipriano, 19, and Young, 21, face charges related to the April 16 attack in the Cipriano home, which resulted in the death of Robert Cipriano, Tucker's father, and severe injuries to his mother, Rose, and brother, Salvatore. Defense attorney Michael McCarthy asked Kumar if the two could have separate trials, arguing that the case has become known as the "Cipriano Case" and that the notoriety that comes with it could cause Young to have an unfair trial. Prosecuting Attorney John Skrzynski argued that Young will receive attention even if tried separately, pointing out that several media outlets …

UPDATED: Tucker Cipriano Ruled Competent to Stand Trial

A forensic psychologist who submitted the report indicated that her opinion on whether Cipriano was sane at the time of the April 16 attack on his family will take more time.

Based on a report submitted by a forensic psychologist, Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Shalina Kumar today ruled that Tucker Cipriano, 19, is competent to stand trial on charges related to an April 16 attack on his family. But a determination on whether Cipriano was sane at the time of the attack will take another month, according to defense attorney Mitchell Ribitwer.  The brutal assault in the Cipriano home resulted in the death of Robert Cipriano, Tucker's father, and severe injuries to his mother, Rose, and brother, Salvatore. Mitchell Young, 21, a friend of Tucker Cipriano's, also faces felony charges in connection with the crimes and will be in court Wednesday, when Kumar will hear a motion to hold a separate trial for each …

What ever happened to "innocent until proven guilty"? While this case might seem cut and dry to all, sometimes i think people forget that. The facts will all be brought out in the court room (not in the news room) and justice will be served. The people defending him are simply doing a job so to say they should hang with him is absolutely disturbing.   more ›

Rose Cipriano Attends Son's Football Game in Novi

A Facebook group for the Cipriano family is flooded with well-wishes after the Farmington Hills mother injured in an April attack takes the field Friday, during a Detroit Catholic Central game.

Friends and family of Rose Cipriano are calling her appearance at Friday's Detroit Catholic Central High School football game in Novi "a miracle". Rose, who is recovering from severe injuries she suffered five months ago in a brutal attack that also wounded her son, Salvatore, and took the life of her husband, Robert, walked hand in hand onto the field with Salvatore's twin brother, Tanner. Senior players and their mothers were recognized during the game.  Tanner, a National Merit Scholarship semifinalist, plays tight end and defensive lineman for the Shamrocks. Salvatore also remains on the Catholic Central 2012 roster, even though he is still in a rehab facility recovering from his injuries.  Through the weekend, family members and …

Reports on DNA, Mental Competence Move Cipriano, Young Hearings

An attorney for Tucker Cipriano says his client may have been psychotic at the time of the attacks that killed his father and severely injured his mother and brother.

Sixth District Circuit Court hearings for Tucker Cipriano, 19, and Mitchell Young, 21, charged in the deadly April 16 attack on Cipriano's family, ended this afternoon with new court dates.  Attorneys are waiting on two reports, including one that will help determine whether Tucker Cipriano is competent to stand trial and whether he was psychotic during the attack. Both men pleaded not guilty June 19 to charges of first-degree, premeditated murder, attempted murder and armed robbery, in connection with the April 16 murder of Tucker's father, Bob Cipriano, and attacks that critically injured his mother, Rose, and brother Salvatore, 17, in their Farmington Hills home. Tucker Cipriano and Mitchell Young will stand trial in Circuit Court.

Tucker Cipriano, 19, and Mitchell Young, 20, pleaded not guilty on the five felony charges they face in connection with the April 16 attack that left Tucker's father dead and his mother and brother critically injured. The two appeared in Oakland County Circuit Court Tuesday afternoon for an arraignment and face the following charges: The two were arraigned separately, and each arraignment lasted just a few minutes. Considering the facts and/or circumstances in this particular case, I highly doubt that a temporary insanity plea will hold any merit, if the prosecution is successful in proving its' case based on premeditation. Moreover, temporary insanity matters should be evaluated thoroughly with psychiatrsts, pscychologists and other related mental health professionals before final judgment is made. It …   more ›
