Novi police arrested a man on charges of operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, according to a police report. At around 1 a.m. on May 12, an officer saw that a black Toyota Camry did not have its lights on and stopped the driver near the on-ramp of eastbound I-96 at Novi Road, the report said. The driver said he was coming from 29 Park, a Novi nightclub, and had two drinks over the past hour, according to the report. The officer noticed a strong odor of intoxicants on his breath and his eyes appeared to be bloodshot, the report said. The officer performed several sobriety tests and administered a preliminary breathalyzer test which had a result of .132 percent blood alcohol content, according to the report. The officer …

An unknown suspect stole the rims and tires off of a Ford company vehicle sometime between 2:30 and 7 a.m. May 13, according to a Novi police report. The Ford company vehicle was parked and locked in the driveway of a Novi home on the 26000 block of Glenwood Drive, the report said. All four stock chrome rims and tires were stolen during the night, according to the report. The complainant’s daughter heard noises around 2:30 a.m. but did not get up to investigate, the report said. There are no suspects or evidence, according to the report. Novi police arrested a man 3:06 a.m. May 11 on charges of operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, according to a police report. An officer saw a driver in a blue Buick Enclave near Grand River Avenue and Beck Road without the headlights on, the report said. The officer stopped the vehicle, which also had two passengers, and noticed the smell of intoxicants, according to the report. The driver said he was messing with the turn signal and windshield wiper switch so must have turned off the headlights, the report said. The officer noticed his speech was slurred, and the man said he had been at night clubs in Royal Oak and had a few drinks earlier in the evening, the report said. The following information was supplied by Novi police.
An unknown suspect stole numerous power tools from a construction trailer at a building on 43317 Grand River Ave., the former site of Taste of Bangkok Cuisine, according to a Novi police report. The trailer was locked up and the property was stolen sometime between 2 p.m. April 29 and noon April 30, the report said. The total value of stolen property from the EBJ Construction trailer was $6,700. The property included a mud mixer, saws, drills, hammers and laser levels, according to the report. The officer noticed that the suspect had cut the latch off the side door to gain entry to the trailer while keeping the lock intact, the report said. An unknown suspect broke into a Novi woman's home on Willowbrook Drive across the street from Village Oaks Elementary School sometime between 9:30 and 11:20 p.m. May 2, according to a Novi police report. The woman said that when she arrived home she found that her house had been ransacked and her door had been kicked in, the report said. Her front door, back door of the garage leading to the backyard and the inside door leading into the house were open, according to the report. Novi police arrested a man the evening May 2 at South University's Novi campus after they found cocaine in his car, according to a police report. Police were told about a suspicious vehicle in the area that had pulled into a campus parking lot, at 41555 Twelve Mile Road, the report said. Police found a man sleeping in the front seat of his car, according to the report. He told police he was sleeping in the parking lot because he pulled off the road to rest after getting tired while driving to East Lansing for his wife’s graduation. Graffiti on a Novi disaster restoration company's property include a horned animal or creature, “Free Love,” “The cake is a lie,” a cat and a moon with stars, according to a Novi police report. An unknown suspect painted graffiti at MJ White & Son, Inc., 22705 Heslip Dr. sometime between 5 p.m. May 1 and 8 a.m. May 2, according to the report. The employees saw the graffiti on the rear of the building in the morning, the report said. There is no video of the vandalism because the camera on the rear of the building is fake, according to the report. Novi police arrested a woman 6:41 p.m. May 2 at Sears, 27600 Novi Road, on charges of retail fraud, according to a police report. A Sears loss prevention agent saw a woman in the sunglasses department trying on various pairs of sunglasses, the report said. She left the department with a pair and went to the bathing suit department where she was observed showing her mother the sunglasses, according to the report. She moved to the shoe department and removed the tags from the glasses and concealed them in her purse, the report said. She returned to her mother and they bought some shoes before exiting the store and made no attempt to pay for the glasses, according to the report. Kim Warren, principal of Novi's Deerfield Elementary, was arrested on April 8 on charges of being intoxicated on school grounds.
The Novi Community Schools board of education will likely decide the future of Kim Warren's employment status with the district at its May 16 meeting, said Novi schools Superintendent Steve M. Matthews. Warren, the Deerfield Elementary School principal who was arrested under the suspicion of being intoxicated on school grounds, is currently using her sick days to be on paid leave, he said. "The board [of education] will be asked to make a decision if she does not resign," he said. According to Matthews, Warren has certain contractual protections that the district needs to honor.
