Novi Pushes Pause on Ring Road Project

In a vote of 4-3, the council decided not to go ahead with the construction project in this fiscal year.

Funding for the long-planned Ring Road project, a three-phased plan designed to revamp traffic flow around Grand River Avenue and Novi Road, was removed from the 2012-13 city budget by Novi City Council at the Council's special budget meeting Saturday. The Council did agree to bring the matter back up for discussion in January, at which time a possible amendment could be made to the budget to include the project again. The project would extend Crescent Boulevard from Novi Road past Big Boy to Grand River Avenue, and it was originally included in the budget with a $3,297,000 price tag. Several city council members said their main concern was that the city should not be paying all of the cost on such a big expense and that additional funding…

Novi Road Reopens to Traffic

After more than seven months of construction, the new bridge opened Wednesday.

Novi Road between 10 Mile Road and Grand River Avenue in Novi has reopened to traffic just in time for the holidays. The $25 million project included building a bridge over the railroad tracks so traffic could flow without being disrupted by trains. The road was also expanded to five lanes, and walking paths were added on both sides. At the ribbon-cutting ceremony Wednesday afternoon, Novi Mayor Bob Gatt thanked Novi residents, visitors and businesses for their patience during the construction. "For years, we've called this project the Novi Road Link, and the meaning became apparent this year while the roadway was under construction," Gatt said. "Not only is it a major link between the north and south ends of our city, it's also an …

Construction Project to Revamp Traffic Flow Around Grand River, Novi Road

The expansion of Crescent Boulevard is expected to improve traffic flow to area businesses.

What screams summer more than ice cream, swimming at the beach and high gas prices? Why, construction, of course. Another construction project is set to begin along Novi Road within the next couple of months. The long-discussed Crescent Boulevard extension project, a three-phased plan designed to revamp traffic flow around Grand River Avenue and Novi Road, is expected to begin later this summer. Once all three phases are complete, Crescent Boulevard will extend from Novi Road to Grand River Avenue. The City Council approved the construction contract for the first phase to Tiseo Brothers, Inc., the low bidder, at its July 11 meeting. Cost for the first phase is $364,524 and it is funded through the City’s Capital Improvements Program for …

Meadowbrook Road Construction Affects Novi Road Detour

Meadowbrook Road will change to alternating two-way traffic for the next three weeks, making the detour from Novi Road more confusing.

With Novi Road closed for construction this summer, Novi residents have already had to alter their routes to drive around town. Now, motorists who use Meadowbrook Road as a detour will have to reroute again for the next three weeks. Construction began Monday on Meadowbrook Road between 10 Mile Road and Cherry Hill Road and is expected to continue until Aug. 8. Meadowbrook Road will remain open to alternating two-way traffic with flag control. The city strongly advises motorists to seek an alternate route. Construction on both Novi Road and Meadowbrook Road was not meant to happen at the same time. According to a press release from Novi, construction on Meadowbrook Road is beginning a year ahead of schedule because federal stimulus funding …

Hi, Jason. Thanks for your question. I was able to speak with Craig Bryson, the public information officer at the Road Commission for Oakland county, today to get some information. He said they are waiting on some things from the state to finalize the plans, but they are expecting to know more any day now. Right now the goal is to begin construction at the end of September or early October. I'll …   more ›
