Northville's Mustangs defeated Novi's Wildcats in overtime play in the Baseline Rivalry Game Friday evening at the newly renovated Tom Holzer Ford Field by a score of 21-14.
Friday evening's match-up between the varsity Northville and Novi High School football teams was a hard fought, close game plagued by rain and cool temperatures throughout. Northville High School scored the first touchdown of the game late in the first quarter, and the extra point was good, making the score 7-0. A field goal attempt by the Mustangs in the second quarter failed, and the half ended with a score of Mustangs 7, Wildcats 0. Throughout the game, Novi seemed to have trouble hanging on to the ball, with a total of four fumbles, all recovered by Northville. Fumbles aside, Novi started the second half with renewed vigor, returning the kick-off to Northville's 30 yard line. Jeffrey Baker of Novi, #29, continued the Wildcat surge, …

The event was held over the weekend in Northville.
A rivalry between Northville and Novi high schools has long been a tradition. In recent years, students from the schools have put a new twist on it for a good cause. This past weekend, the students participated in their third annual combined Relay for Life. Nearly 400 teens from the two schools fund-raised for the American Cancer Society (ACS) event. The students collected about $47,000, just $1,000 shy of their goal. Donations can still be made on the Relay For Life website. Northville and Novi students also competed in games throughout the evening. Northville won the Novi-Northville games for the third year in a row. It is the only such event run entirely by teenagers in all of Southeast Michigan, said Sarah Evitts, community …

10 individuals qualify for finals and the team moves into the quarterfinals.
The Catholic Central Shamrock wrestlers took another step toward recapturing the Division 1 State Championship title this past week by winning the Regional Finals. This is the fourth consecutive year that CC has advanced to the MHSAA Team State Finals in Battle Creek. The team opened the evening by destroying Livonia Franklin 83-0 as a result of the Franklin coach’s decision to send second-string wrestlers into the match. The Franklin wrestlers themselves battled hard but were completely outmatched by the Shamrocks. The second meet of the night saw a well coached event between the Shamrocks and Farmington High School. Farmington advanced to the second round of the regional tournament by narrowly defeating Plymouth 38-36 in an exciting …

This Letter to the Editor is from Northville High School students Jimmy Tian, Edward Clifton, Allison Montambeau and Jessica Tyer. It stems from their research for their AP Environmental Science class. On January 22, 2012, the famous football coach of the Penn State University Nittany Lions Joe Paterno died of complications from lung cancer. Most people think that lung cancer is simply a disease that smokers get. That is simply not true. Joe Paterno was not a smoker, but he lived in a very high radon risk area, the Pennsylvania Appalachians, leading to much speculation that Joe Paterno died as a result of radon induced lung cancer. The Environmental Protection Agency states that, each year, 21,000 non-smokers die of lung cancer from the …
