Redbox Offering Free Movie Rental on Thursday

The national giveaway celebrates the company's two billionth disc being rented last weekend.

If you've wanted to check out that new release but haven't made time for a movie night, Redbox has you covered. To celebrate the company's two billionth disc being rented last weekend, Redbox is offering a free, one-night movie rental on Thursday. To get the freebie, the rental must be made at a kiosk using the promotional code THANKS2U. In Novi, there is a Redbox located inside Kroger on Grand River Avenue. There is also one inside of Meijer on Haggerty and Eight Mile roads in Northville. And for those wondering, the two billionth rental was the movie Drive and it was rented at a McDonald’s in Philomath, OR.

Best Pictures: How to Watch the Oscar Movies Around Novi

Nine movies are nominated for Best Picture. Here's where you can watch, rent or borrow them around town.

The Oscars are one month away. How many of the Best Picture nominees have you seen? The nominations were announced Tuesday, and you can preview the movies by watching their trailers (right). If you need to catch up, here's a guide to how you can watch the nominees around town: The closest Redbox is located in Kroger on Grand River Avenue. Showtimes for Emagine, AMC 20 and Laurel Park Place can be found online. Check if these movies are available or checked out at the library by searching the online catalog. The 84th annual Academy Awards are at 7 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 26 on ABC.

Wouldn't you know . . . I had a trivia question last night asking which movies had been nominated. Completely forgot "The Help" (which I love!) and "Hugo" (which had the most nominations). I've only seen "The Help" and "Moneyball" (which is all right if you like statistics, not so much otherwise). I'm excited to see the rest!   more ›

Redbox Kiosk in Novi Now Offers Video Game Rentals

New releases and popular family games are available for $2 a night.

Novi gamers, this ones's for you: the Redbox located in Kroger is now offering video games. Games cost $2 a day and can be reserved online for easy pickup at the nearest Redbox location. In Novi, there is a Redbox location inside the Kroger at 47650 Grand River Ave. The store is open from 6 a.m.-midnight. Top new releases are available for rental, along with popular family and children’s games. A complete list of available titles is viewable online. Games are available for PlayStation 3, Nintendo Wii and Xbox 360. Redbox officials said the company began testing video game rentals at 5,000 locations throughout the country in August 2009.
