Indie Film Shows Pets Left Behind to Die in Foreclosed Homes

Pinemotion Entertainment based in Novi will release a Michigan made movie titled "ABANDONED BUDDY" on March 2, 2013. The film is based on the tragedy of pets left behind to die in foreclosed homes.

According to Reality Trac, there were 1.8 Million U.S. properties with foreclosure filings in 2012.

People who are forced out often leave their pets behind in foreclosed properties without food, water or the comforts of a temperature-controlled environment. The pets suffer from hunger and thirst, then die. Even if the pets are left with some food and water, they will face hell after finishing it.

Experts say a dog will become dehydrated within 24 hours without water and could die in extreme heat within a few days. Like humans, dogs and cats can survive for a long time without food but will quickly die without water.

The director, Noriko M Kambara, says, "Not every pet's owners treat their pets as their family. Some of the owners have their hands full and can't afford to think about pets. They leave their pets, like leaving their furniture, without feeling guilty or without recognition that they are killing their pets. They don't look at a pet as living. They see a pet as property, no different than a worn toy thrown away when they get bored with playing with it. I want to tell people through this film that pets should not be treated like that, they are a part of their family."
