Detroit Public TV Documentary Follows Novi Judge

The documentary about veterans facing addiction and mental health issues airs in time for Memorial Day weekend.

A new Detroit Public Television documentary that airs 2 p.m. today features a Novi judge while portraying the challenges veterans face beyond the battlefield.

The documentary, called "Help on the Home Front: Veterans Court," shines a light on how the courts and the community are working in a new way to help military veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan.

The one-hour documentary follows Judge Brian MacKenzie of Novi -- Chief Judge Pro Tem of the 52nd District Court -- and three veterans as they work their way in and out of MacKenzie's “Veterans Court” program to overcome addiction and mental health issues.
