Election Day is Tuesday: Are You Ready?

Novi voters will choose their mayor and three city council members.

Novi voters will head to the polls Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

There are a total of nine candidates who will be on the ballot Nov. 5: three running for mayor and six running for three city council seats.

Mayor Bob Gatt, who was elected in 2011, is vying to keep his spot from new candidates Jason George Wellington Dorsch and Joseph Peter Samona. Voters will choose three city council members from these candidates: Councilman Justin Fischer, Councilman Andrew I. Mutch, Alexander M. Fera, Gwen Markham, Jonathan Montville and Novi school board president Dennis O'Connor. Take a look at our candidate guide to learn more about them.

Schools

Novi residents will also find two millage renewal proposals for the Novi Community School District on the ballot. Answering yes to the proposal questions posed on the ballot will approve the renewal of the millages. Learn more about the renewals.

Voters in a portion of Novi Precinct 21 will decide to renew a non-homestead millage for South Lyon Community Schools for another 10 years, according to Novi News. The revenue generated from the 18 mills totals over $7.5 million annually, which is greater than 11 percent of the school district’s budget. Learn more about the millage.

Residents in precincts 8 to 12 will see a $67.5 million Safety, Security & Technology Bond on the ballot proposed by the Walled Lake Consolidated School District, according to Novi News. Learn more about the bond. 

5 Novi charter amendments

Novi residents will also find five charter amendments on the ballot. Novi's current charter — the "constitution" of the city — was first adopted in 1969 and had not been formally reviewed since more than 35 years ago. 

One amendment calls for restating the entire charter in gender neutral terms. Find out about the other amendments.
