Novi Elects New City Councilwoman Gwen Markham

Gwen Markham says she is excited to get to work for the city.

Gwen Markham is Novi city council's newly elected representative.

In Tuesday's elections, she had 3,939 of the votes. Councilman Justin Fischer, with 4,277 votes, and Councilman Andrew Mutch, with 4,078 votes, keep their seats. They will all serve four-year terms.

"I'm grateful that people put their confidence in me. I had a lot of people helping me and I appreciate their help," she said.

Markham, an 18-year resident of Novi, ran for Oakland County Commissioner for District 9 last year and Novi city council in 1997. She said her campaign this year was a team effort lasting many months.

Markham's thrilled with the results, she said, and she was also happy to see so many people come out to vote.

"I am just really excited to get to work for the city," she said.

She said her first focus is doing more to support small businesses in town. Read more about her.
