Tanner Cipriano Reflects on Family Tragedy at Graduation

Tanner Cipriano is valedictorian of Novi's Detroit Catholic Central High School.

Tanner Cipriano, 18, graduated from Novi's Detroit Catholic Central High School last month.

The Cipriano family name is well known because of last year's tragic incidents when Tanner's older brother, Tucker, was charged with the beating death of his father and assaults on his mother and younger brother, Tanner's twin. Tucker Cipriano is preparing to go on trial Monday.

Meanwhile, Tanner Cipriano was chosen as his school's valedictorian, according to an article in the Detroit Free Press

“Life isn’t always so predictable,” he said in his speech, according to the article. “One evening, I might be saying good night to my father, and the next morning I’m sitting outside my house watching my entire life change in front of me. We all have our own issues to deal with. But whatever situation you find yourself in, good or bad, you must make the best of it, for yourself."

During the attack on his family, Tanner Cipriano managed to escape with his younger sister and call police. That moment of hope and strength lives on in the Cipriano family.

On Friday, more than 1,000 people are expected to participate in the Cipriano Classic 5k Fun Run/Walk at the Farmington Family YMCA. The event benefits the Cipriano Children's Trust, a fund that supports the continuing medical recovery and daily needs of the Cipriano children.

Those who cannot attend and wish to make a donation can do so through the event webpage.
