Novi Named to 2013 AP District of the Year Honor Roll

This is Novi Community School District's third consecutive year on the honor roll.

The College Board listed the Novi Community School District on the 2013 AP District of the Year Honor Roll, making it the third consecutive year for the district to achieve this award.

“We attribute our district success to our conscientious students, phenomenal teaching staff, supportive school board and engaged parents," said Novi High School Interim Principal Nicole Carter in a news release.

Novi High School has 652 students participating in 18 Advanced Placement (AP) courses with over 1,200 course placements scheduled for the 2013-14 school year.  AP courses are just one component of advanced level offerings in the district, according to the release.

"While this award is just one of the many accolades the district has received we are appreciative of the recognition. The Novi Community School District strives on a daily basis to live out our vision statement of developing each student’s potential with a world-class education," said District Superintendent Steve M. Matthews in the release.

'These school districts have achieved something truly remarkable'

The honor roll consists of 367 U.S. public school districts that simultaneously achieved increase in access to AP courses and maintained or improved the rate at which their AP students earned scores of 3 or higher on AP exams.

"These school districts have achieved something truly remarkable. They managed to open the doors of their AP classrooms to many more students, while also increasing the percentage of students earning high enough AP Exam grades to stand out in the competitive college admission process and qualify for college credit and placement," said Trevor Packer, the College Board’s senior vice president of Advanced Placement and College Readiness.
