Novi Students Surpass Fundraising Goal for Tornado Victims

Fourth grade students at Novi's Parkview Elementary were hoping to raise $1,000.

Miranda Prieur and her friends at Parkview Elementary School wrapped up their fundraiser to help Oklahoma's tornado victims about a week ago.

As of last week, her mother, Kristin Prieur, said they collected over $1,500 and are likely close to $2,000.

Miranda Prieur, 9, in fourth grade at Parkview Elementary, decided last month she would have a pajama day fundraiser at her school to raise $1,000 for the victims through the American Red Cross.

Students had to donate a minimum of $2 to wear pajamas to school.

“This was all her idea. She watched the news and thought about the children and how they perished,” Kristen Prieur said.

She said her daughter also assembled a group of her friends from her fourth grade class to go door-to-door to collect donations. Their hard work and the community's generosity helped them surpass her goal.
