Novi Elections 2013: Bob Gatt Wins Novi Mayoral Race

Mayor Bob Gatt is reelected to a second term and Gwen Markham is city council's new candidate.

Update 8:37 p.m.
After all of the precincts were counted, Bob Gatt is reelected for a second term as Novi's mayor with 5,811 votes, beating Jason George Wellington Dorsch who had 203 votes and Joseph Peter Samona who had 683 votes, according to unofficial results from Oakland County.   

Gwen Markham is city council's newly elected representative with 3,939 of the votes. Councilman Justin Fischer, with 4,277 votes, and Councilman Andrew Mutch, with 4,078 votes, keep their seats. They will all serve four-year terms.

'Please Vote For My Wife'
Among the election campaigners in Novi Tuesday morning was supportive husband Bruce Markham.

He was out since 7:30 a.m. and wore a sign that read "Please Vote for My Wife" in support of Gwen Markham's run for city council.

There are 39 people who came out to vote so far at precinct 16, Novi Public Library, this morning. 

Precinct chairperson Mary Angela Winter said it's been a steady turnout for a local election. 

"When you have four or five [voting] modules filled, that's a good turnout," said Betty Elias, poll worker for five years.

Voters in Novi go to the polls Tuesday to elect a mayor and three city council representatives. They will also decide the fate of five charter amendments and millage requests for Novi, South Lyon and Walled Lake schools.
